The Emerald Coast and Merida
The Emerald Coast is one of my favorite places to relax, take in the warm weather and friendly Mexican atmosphere. Who can resist the cool white powder sand, the tranquil beaches, the tropical vegetation and its warm waters which are so inviting? Not me, that’s for sure.
Seafood and authentic Mexican Restaurants abound throughout this coastline. I especially like the traditional Yucatecan Cuisine which is so rich in flavors and colors.
My husband has always wanted to live on the coast since he was a young man. He enjoys fishing, diving and other boating activities, so the Merida Coastline is the perfect place for him. He enjoys swimming at the beach and he also likes taking a boat out to relax on the waves or just fish all day. And he always returns with fish for dinner, usually some Grouper which is very abundant in this area. And best of all the people who work on the boat will clean the fish for you, so all you have to do is pull out your favorite recipe, cook up a storm and have a glass of wine.
We also enjoy the privacy this area offers. It is not overrun by tourist and there are no hustling and bustling crowds. We may have liked it when we were younger, but we are now in a different stage in our lives. Here things are taken easy, and the way of life is much simpler.
But every now and then when I do get a little anxious, and I need a dosage of city life I know that I can just jump in my car, and 25 minutes later I am in Merida. Lovely Merida!
Not many people know about this spectacular city, yet it is one of the most modern, cleanest and beautiful cities in all of Mexico.
Merida has great shopping for clothing, furniture and groceries. It has hotels, and an International Airport which has flights from Houston and
Miami. The Mexican and Mayan cultures are joined together as one here in this rich historical area of the Yucatan.
It is a great place to visit especially if you have family in town. There are just so many things to do. You can visit archaeological sites which abound in this area. Swim or scuba dive in a Cenote (underground water caverns). Take the kids to a city park or maybe to the local zoo. And adults, when you want to get away, try out one of the historical Haciendas which have been converted into Hotel-Spas. After a relaxing day at the Spa, have a romantic dinner at a fabulous restaurant in the city, personally we like Trotters. You will not run short of evening activities either, take in a jazz concert, or a musical, or maybe even an opera at Merida’s famous theatre which is located in its historical center around “El Zocalo” (the main square).
What can I say, the best way to experience the Emerald coast and Merida is to come over and visit. We hope to see you soon in the Yucatan, Mexico.
